HONEST SCRAP

Oowie Peewie, I've won the HONEST SCRAP award. I can't capture the picture for some reason. Marguerite from Cajundelights  bestowed it upon me. How sweet she is, and if you haven't been to her blog, scoot on over. Good food, good times, and you'll learn just how FUN being Cajun can be.

I'm going to take this opportunity to thank everyone that follows my blog, or leaves a comment. I'm kind of new to blogging and you've all made me feel real welcome. Reading your blogs has expanded my world. Some of you bloggers out there are sweet, some of you are spicy, some of you are naughty, and some of you are just plain hilarious.

Last night I went and saw the movie Julie & Julia. Blogging is featured in the film. Meryl Streep deserves an Oscar, (big surprise), and it was amazing to see how Julie Powell's blog became so popular SO FAST. Just in case you're unfamiliar with Julie Powell, she wrote the blog that did so well, was pursued by agents and publishers, and then went on to write a book about her experience, and that book inspired the movie.

I guess as part and parcel of receiving this award, I'm supposed to tell you guys 10 things you don't know about the author of this blog. Here goes:

*I grew up in various locations in The Pacific Northwest. I love it up there and miss the country. I even miss the rain!

*Got one older brother, and one younger sister, so that makes me a middle child.

*Three things drive me absolutely up a wall, untangling necklaces, cleaning ovens, and going to see a doctor (for any reason).

*Over the course of 16 yrs I gave birth to five children.

*Cooking turns me on, I'll whip you up something yummy if you come to visit.

*You could say I tend to be a bit picky about order. But having the 5 kids REALLY mellowed me out.

*Worry, stress, and lack of sleep, all tend to hit me in the stomach. I have to take medication when it does. So I've learned to drink yogurt every morning, and to meditate when things get hectic, in order to avoid keeping the makers of Zantac in business.

*My birth sign is Virgo, my rising moon is Scorpio.

*At the age of three, I could write my name out in cursive. My brother taught me, all nineteen letters. And by the age of four I was reading. My parents would have me read at parties to entertain their friends.

*I'm crazy about my husband. He's the best person I know. He's like George Washington, he cannot tell a lie. Really, he's incapable of lying.

Whew, I did it!

So if I showed up, what would you make in the kitchen? Did you like being the middle child?

I usually cook whatever is in season, or catches my fancy at the market that day. I love to cook what my guests love. So, if I knew one of your favorite foods, I'd probably make that.

I was only a middle child for a time, in that my brother was 8 yrs older, and my sister was only 2yrs younger. When he left the house I was just 10, and then I became the oldest child.

Interesting list, always fun to learn things about new friends. I just moved from Seattle to the high desert of Albuquerque, NM. Very different. Of course, that’s what we were after. Unlike, you, I’d had enough of the rain, drizzle, slugs, moss, algae, fungus, and well…you get the picture. None of that here. So far, it’s been great. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Liz...just wanted to let you know that I am still following your blogs. They get delivered in their entirety to my email, so I don't step over to your site as often as I should. So glad to see all your open honesty here. I am quickly learning how much time writing can really take.

What fun- I like these types of posts. I'm amazed you could write your name in cursive so young. I thought that the muscles were not developed enough.

Aaah, bliss - here I am, finally. I will take the time to slowly sip my Rooibos tea and while I do, I shall meander through your lovely blog.

Oh, and I think you and I have much in common having just read this particular post. I, like you, grew up somewhere other than where I currently live..and I miss it madly. I hate untangling necklaces, cleaning ovens and doctors are an anathema. Also love cooking, especially for lots and lots of people. Likewise, order is...er...the order of the day and my parents also used to make me entertain dinner party guests...by reciting poetry. And, last but not least, I think my husband rocks - big time! See? Peas in a pod!

Galen, my brother feels the same way that you do, he says I'm just romantic about living up north. We do get spoiled by the amazing weather and lack of all that you listed, plus mosquitoes, we just don't get many in this dry climate.

Lauri, Perhaps I should have worded the post differently, as I do not remember writing my name at 3, but have been told so many times by family members that I could do it. I have no idea how legible what I produced was. lol. I only know that I wrote out my name, copying my brother's example. He was 8 yrs older and anxious that I learn what he knew. He taught me how to dig up earth worms, and took me fishing. He taught me how to play baseball, how to ride a bike, & how to stargaze too.

I love rain! And the smell of the ocean. I want to always live close to the sea. Though there are a few places I'd make an exception for.

Doctors scare me too.

And whew! Five kids! I can see how that would mellow you out in regards to order.

I remember learning to read through Sesame Street, at 3 or 4, and then excitedly showing my grandmother how I could write my name. Unfortunately I put an x in it for some reason. She laughed, and to my horror, showed everyone. I was embarrassed but not discouraged.

Your husband sounds amazing.

What a fun post! I enjoyed getting to know more about you:). Wow-five kids-that's amazing! I really want to see the movie Julie & Julia but it has yet to come to our area. Chances are I will have to wait for the DVD.

BTW, I am reading the new book 'Blogging for Bliss' and love it! I highly recommend it to anyone who blogs creatively:).

Blessings,

Kim
