Like Barbie

I have never climbed behind the wheel and gone on a road trip by myself. Like Barbie in the picture, I always seem to have company. What if I did get get in the car and strike off on my own? Where would I go? How would I manage to get myself free from entanglements in order to do something so unheard of?

What about you, have you ever gone on a road trip alone? And if you could pull it off, where would you set off too?

I'd head for Taos New Mexico, that's where I'd go, if I could leave today.

What an excellent choice! I'd volunteer to ride along to Taos with you, but then you wouldn't be on your own, would you? We'd be a we. A Thelma and Louise.

Come to think of it, not a bad idea all things considered. Except the driving off a cliff part.

AS a total home body, I was contemplating what kind of comment I'd leave, but as the word verification showed it's face, all I could do was laugh - it came up as 'hermit' ! Did it see me coming? :)

Scotland. A road trip round the single-lane roads of the north. Just me and the dog, bens, beaches and bothies. And memories of my first trip with the man who took me there originally.

Some road trips can be bitter sweet too.

The northwest coast of Florida.

I can already feel my bloodpressure lower as I picture ugly, barren north Texas in my rearview mirror.

If only.

Looks like schools are closed for ice and cold. No escape for me.

I'd love to travel cross country up here in Canada. I live kind of in the middle, so I don't know if I'd go east or west first. Either way, it would be a beautiful journey :)

As soon as you said "road trip" Thelma and Louise came to my mind! I love that movie and could see myself being wild and crazy like them! LOL!

I've taken one road trip alone from MA to NJ. It wasn't exciting at all and most of the trip I couldn't wait to get home again.

If I decided to take another road trip alone it would probably be to the Keys here in FL. I love the ocean and there is so much of it on both sides!

Hm, I'd take a familiar journey to the CT shoreline, walking along a beloved beach full of sweet memories and nostalgia and hopes for the future. So I'd be alone in essence, but in fine company with my thoughts and memories.

I have never taken a solo trip. (Except my first trip coming to America)

Taos sounds interesting.
Hawaii too.
Japan?
India?

Come to think of it, we all must think about this at length.

Yes! I have! I drove down to Jacksonville, Florida once and spent a weekend there. It was a hardcore weekend... I turned off my phone when I got there, only listened to the radio while driving, and didn't watch tv. I had no planner or homework with me (I was in college). Instead, I wrote and went to the beach. It was heaven.

I think it is so important if you are married or have kids to travel alone- actually better if not in a car. I think we become too insulated, we rely too much on our families and cut ourselves off from others.

I went to Cape Town Book Fair alone. I took a bus part way then a plane. I was not at the fair as a participant - I was a visitor only.

I was suddenly out of my cocoon. I had to meet people and talk to people and ask for things. I met so many wonderful people. Had all sorts of excting things happen. I spent 11 hours in Park Station in Joburg- enough observation time for me to set my romance Kwaito Love partly there.

Now I want to try and travel alone at least once every few years. Of course I'm off to Egypt alone this year but that doesn't really count as it is a writers' residency. I'm sending my daughter off alone to USA this year too- she must develop the habit.

I've gone on tiny trips but nothing huge. I'm fine with my own company, but I do enjoy sharing the experience of a new place with someone else.

Actually I have done many road trips alone. The longest one was to Alexandria, VA for a conference. I stopped in Petersburg, Va on the way and enjoyed the historic homes, antiques stores, and restaurants:).

Blessings,

I would go to Portugal and then drive onto France. From there I would visit my girls and blogging friends in UK,travel onto Vancouver to visit my son. While in that neck of the woods, I would contact a few of my blogging friends in Canada and US, then I would head back to Cyprus. I wonder how much fuel I would need? LOL

I love road trips and have taken several by myself. Taos sounds great, but then its not too far from here...about 7 hours. I may have to resurrect a post I did a long time ago about road trips. I think I'd like to go to someplace warm right now, maybe southern California, way southern.

I've been playing with just that idea recently. I may strike out on my own later this summer when I visit my sister in Fiji (where I'd hope to also visit New Zealand, Australia, etc.) I've also been dreaming of wandering around Europe again and seeing places I haven't seen before. I love being a traveler.

I traveled 700 miles on a road trip by myself once. It was ok one time, but I can't see me doing it again. It did get a little lonely.

I'd go to Long Beach. Or maybe Lousianna. Or North Carolina. Or all of the above. I'd just want to go and have a great time.

I'm kind of interested in Sedonna, Arizona. But too afraid to do anything like that alone. Years of marriage has made me timid when it comes to adventure by myself. Hmmm may need to give that some thought.

The Florida Keys.

Sounds wonderful in light of the temperatures and ice we have here in the East ---
