You Scream I Scream

My nineteen year old son has been staying with us while he works on clearing out the mess of ugly overgrown plants so we can put down some sod in the backyard. He decided he wanted to make ice cream, (it got hot again and he was out there dreaming of milkshakes while he toiled away in the hot sun), so we went to Kitchen Fantasy, (a nifty store if ever there was one), and purchased an ice cream maker. He's become a mad scientist! The first batch was chocolate hazelnut, made with Nutella, and roasted hazelnuts, yummy. Last night we went over to his brother's house and he made coffee ice cream, (he used Starbucks new Via microground coffee for flavoring), with brownie bits, (gluten free so I could eat them), and slivered almond sprinkles. Next on the menu: pomagranate sorbet! Have a fabulous weekend I know we will!

Oh Elizabeth! How lucky!

I just don't have the gourmet gene, but your son obviously does. And at only nineteen! I have a daughter who will turn nineteen on October 27th.

Kitchen Fanatsy sounds like my kind of store. I could spend a king's ransom on kitchen goodies (and have).

My eyes got wide on your recent comment at Casa Hice. Your house was sold for $700,000 less than it was worth? OMG... you must have lived in a multi-million dollar home. Wow! I do want to thank you for your sentiments though and to tell you how blown away I am that you visit my humble blog. I mean, you're FAMOUS!!!

By the way... how were those milkshakes?

How yummy! I'm looking for my ice cream maker now and my favorite to make is rum raisin (and I use real dark rum!).

Oh, Elizabeth...my mouth is watering!!!! It looks and sounds so fabulous!!! Wow! What a creative gourmet he is!!! He must get his creative genes from YOU!!!! And you require gluten free? I can't believe it!!! Yet, one more point of commonality between us!!!!

I came to thank you for your wonderfully gracious comment, and to tell you that my heart breaks for you and your little, courageous grandson!! What terrible heartbreak! I can barely even imagine such grief!! But oh, I know what it is to watch our loved ones die and suffer so...do you find it difficult to spend time in the guest room?

I've told my husband that I cannot spend time in the downstairs master until we completely redecorate it...it still reminds me of my mom, and those final moments...

My heart reaches out to you today...your friendship means so very much to me, and I hate that you and your family have had to walk, and in fact, continue to tread this very heart-wrenching road. You are truly an extraordinary and courageous woman.

Sending you my warmest regard, admiration, and love today and for the days to come~Janine XO

Oh man, those sound so wonderful. I remember making homemade ice cream as a kid with those hand crank models. So good.

That Pomgranite Sorbet sounds heavenly! Good thing we don't have one of those stores! I'm a sucker for small kitchen appliances! :)

I love ice cream, but don't think I've ever had homemade ice cream. It sounds heavenly :) Enjoy!

Don't hate but I don't ice cream. There is an exception and that is homemade ice cream. When I was a kid (in body, cause I still feel like a kid in my mind) every weekend we went a visting at my grandma's. There were always a multitude of cousins to entertain me, but just as important homemade ice cream.

I have never had pomegranate sorbet, but for some reason, it sounds delicious. For some unknown reason, we didn't break out our ice cream maker all summer.

I love the ice cream that comes out of those machines. Ours broke... but making all the different flavors was incredible. Your pictures have me longing for some ice cream, though it is hardly the weather for it in chicago, where the gray of winter has already settled in.
